Frequently Asked Questions

  • I’ve never submitted to a conference before, can I still submit?

    • Yes! We encourage students who are new to academic conferences. We have created a helpful guide here that you can view for more details about why you should submit to academic conferences and simple presentation tips.

  • What does it mean to present on a panel?

    • Presenting your work on a panel means that you talk about your academic essay in front of an audience, alongside other students who are also sharing their essay. After each student presents their essay, there is a Q&A session where the audience asks questions. The way in which you present is up to you, but please keep in mind the time limit and be respectful of your fellow panelists and the audience. Please see the Guide for more conference presentation tips.

  • How do I submit to the conference?

    • Our conference uses Eventbrite as our submissions portal.  Follow the steps on Eventbrite and paste your full abstract in the proper text box. We know that it is a small box, so you’ll have to copy and paste!

  • When do I have to submit by?

    • The submissions portal has not yet opened and the deadline will be announced once the portal has opened. Please take this time to consider or prepare what work you would like to present!

  • What is a roundtable?

    • A roundtable is a discussion between peers. The roundtable facilitator has prepared a discussion topic in advance and has submitted a short description to the conference. This short description (maximum 250 words) should identify the central topic and provide some examples of questions that this discussion seeks to answer. There is no academic paper or abstract required for a roundtable.

  • What does it mean to submit an essay abstract?

    • Submitting an essay abstract means that you are submitting your academic paper to be presented on a panel. The submission-only requires an essay abstract (maximum 250 words) of a completed academic paper that you have written. The essay abstract will be evaluated and placed on a panel with similar topics. At the conference, you will present the completed academic paper.

  • Do you accept poster submissions?

    • At this time, we are not accepting poster submissions. Please consider submitting an essay abstract to be placed on a panel or proposing a roundtable discussion.

  • Is there a fee for the conference?

    • No, there is not a fee.

  • I still have more questions about submissions. Who can I reach out to?
